Staff Bios
Name: Mrs. Naomi Coffelt
Title: Co-Teacher of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade Class
Other Information: Naomi grew up in Wisconsin where her father was a pastor in three different towns. She attended Concordia College, in Moorhead, MN, earning her BA in music with a minor in religion. She believes God has called her to teach and has blessed her with the talents needed. Her goal is to draw students closer to Jesus and help them grow in their relationship with Him. She loves learning and wants to encourage those she teaches to love learning. Naomi also teaches piano lessons, Sunday School and enjoys reading and scrapbooking. Mrs. Coffelt lives in Hidden Valley Lake with her husband Jerome and has two grown children whom she home-schooled when they were young. Mrs. Coffelt joined KCA in 2008.
Name: Mrs. Sandy Goss
Title: Teacher of Kindergarten and First Grade Class
Other Information: Sandy has been an early childhood development educator for 30 years. She taught ECE classes at Mendocino College for many years. She was head elementary teacher at the Montessori School of Sonoma for 10 years. Sandy believes strongly that learning is a creative process and that children are natural learners. Her goal is to instill a love for learning by building the child’s self esteem, self-motivation and a love and respect for others. Sandy has raised her family in Lake County and now enjoys watching her four grandchildren grow. Mrs. Goss joined KCA in 2008.
Name: Mrs. Becky Madison
Title: Lead Teacher and Co-Teacher of 2nd & 3rd Grade
Other Information: Becky was born in Petaluma and went to Penngrove Community Church as a girl.
She graduated from Bethany University where she received a BA in multiple subjects. Following she received her teaching credential in multiple subjects (K-12) and Spanish. Becky enjoys teaching because she loves sharing the joy of knowledge and God’s love with children. Besides her teaching abilities, she enjoys performing with the Beaudettes (a Christian musical/comedy group), knitting/spinning, trying new recipes and cycling (in good weather!). Mrs. Madison joined KCA in 2007 and has over 25 years of teaching experience.
Name: Mrs. Jamie Shaw
Title: Co-Teacher of Second & Third Grade Class
Other Information: Jamie grew up in Redding and graduated from Multnomah Bible College with a degree in Theology. She teaches because she likes the joy in seeing a child “get it!” She enjoys golf, tennis, gardening, traveling and cooking. Mrs. Shaw joined KCA in 2006.
Name: Mrs. Deborah Sombs
Title: Co-Teacher of Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade Class
Other Information: Deb received her BA in History and has extensive experience as a tutor for many specialized programs. Fluent in French and German (and English of course!), she is a self-acknowledged history and geography buff and she enjoys sharing this love with her class! Mrs. Sombs joined KCA in 2005.
Name: Mr. Ben Sombs
Title: Teacher of Seventh and Eighth Grade Class
Other Information: Ben was born in Visalia/Pine Flat, CA in the Sequoia National Forest. He graduated from Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS and earned a degree in History as well as his teaching credential. Ben likes to teach because he feels a sense of accomplishment, that he can make a difference, enjoys helping kids discover new things and overcome difficulties. In his spare time he enjoys cycling, fencing, sailing, shooting and playing games. Mr. Sombs joined KCA in 2005.
Name: LaVonda Wascom
Title: Office Manager
Other Information: LaVonda was born and raised in Walker, Louisiana. She moved to Lakeport in 2003 when her husband, Mark was called to be the pastor of Lake County Bible Fellowship. They have three daughters and three grandchildren. LaVonda enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, riding motorcycles with her husband and kayaking. She joined KCA in 2005. "It is a pleasure to work at KCA. Seeing the students being taught not only math and english, but also the love of Jesus is a wonderful thing."
